Wednesday, May 22nd was a special day at Pearland High School (PHS) as we had the honor of presenting the first Collin E. Smith Memorial Scholarships. The excitement in the air was palpable as two outstanding students, Sarah Bee and Brayan Sierra, were awarded scholarships in memory of Collin Smith.
The event took place at the PHS Career Center, and we were grateful to have Principal John Palombo and Counselor Harriet Stewart, along with many other supporters, in attendance. Our dedicated board members, Terry Collins and Shawn Traylor Meyer, were also present to share in this meaningful moment.
Collin, a sophomore at PHS who tragically passed away in a motorcycle accident on April 10, 2024, was known for his drive, determination, and strong core values. He had just been accepted onto the competition welding team and had big dreams for his future. In honoring Collin, we look for students who embody his values of Honor, Integrity, Watchfulness, Perseverance, Leadership, and Aptitude.
Sarah and Brayan exemplify these qualities and we couldn’t be more excited to support their journey towards trade-focused higher education. Over the next two years, we’ll be providing mentorship as they work towards their certifications and prepare to enter the job market.
This scholarship is more than just financial support; it’s a way to keep Collin’s spirit alive by helping others achieve their dreams. We’re thrilled to see where this journey takes Sarah and Brayan and are committed to supporting them every step of the way.
Thank you to everyone who has supported the Collin E. Smith Memorial Scholarship Fund. Your contributions are making a real difference in the lives of these students and ensuring that Collin’s legacy of passion and perseverance continues to inspire.
To God be the glory for this opportunity to honor Collin and support these promising young individuals.
Stay tuned for updates on Sarah and Brayan’s progress as they embark on this exciting chapter of their lives!
