Collin was a bright light in our community, tragically taken too soon in a motorcycle accident. Collin’s passion for life and love for riding are what we want to honor by promoting motorcycle safety for both riders and drivers.
Motorcyclists: Gear Up, Stay Alert
- Helmets save lives. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), helmets reduced the risk of death by 37% for motorcycle riders in 2021 [1]. Always wear a DOT-compliant helmet that fits properly.
- Dress for the slide, not the ride. Leathers or heavy textile gear offer the best protection in a crash.
- See and be seen. Use your headlight during the day and wear bright, reflective clothing.
- Ride within your limits. Avoid speeding, alcohol, and distractions. Take a motorcycle safety course to hone your skills.
Drivers: Share the Road, Look Twice
- Motorcycles are smaller and harder to see. Check your mirrors and blind spots before turning or changing lanes. Give motorcycles a full lane of space.
- Yield the right of way. Motorcycles have the same rights and privileges as other vehicles on the road.
- Be aware of motorcycle blind spots. Large vehicles can obscure motorcycles from view.
- Avoid distractions. Put down your phone and focus on the road.
